DIARY....
April 2010
This New Year has begun well for Stars of Hope.
We have initiated a new schooling system for our children in Kenya. The children's education is being sponsored by the Chris Ferguson Foundation. The partnership is working really well and the foundation is continuing to provide the funds for the children's education. We all came to the agreement that it would be beneficial for the children to go to school outside of the centre so that they can flourish as individuals. Ruth has been sending over the children's school reports which are outstanding and show how much the children's new school means to them.
It is rainy season in Kenya and so the children have had colds and there has been some sickness too but the SOH funds are able to cover medical costs.
The children from St Ives School have continued their pen pal relationship with the children in Kenya.
We are looking for more funding over this year as the project has grown and continues to do so. The economic crisis that the world has been facing has also made it more challenging to keep things running smoothly.
In Bali they are currently building a 'bale' onto the centre. The bale is a shelter that will enable outdoor activities to continue even if there is heavy rain or if the sun is scalding hot. We are also working on our trade plan to sell handmade items from Bali here in the UK.
The fundraising events diary is filling up.See the up and coming events page.
September-December 2009
Over the past few months Stars of Hope has secured funding for both projects in Bali and Kenya.
The SOH annual ball was held on the 5th September in St Agnes. It has raised the target funds needed to run the centre in Bali for a whole year. The next plans for Bali involve building a yoga bamboo hut next to main centre so that classes and physiotherapy sessions can be held out of the direct sun and heavy down pours of rain during the rainy seasons. We will be raising funds for the bamboo hut over the next few months.
At present the centre in Bali is thriving and is being used to its full potential. The children and young people are very happy there. We will have updated footage over the next few months.
Stars of Hope Kenya has seen some hard times this year with rising food and living costs and much sickness amongst the children but they have kept strong and funds have always met their needs. The rent on the building we have at present runs out this time next year, but the land lady will have us there until the new home is ready and built. We have found 2 acres of land at the cost if £10,000 so we will be looking to raise such funds over the coming months. The land will then be built on and so funds for this will also need to be raised over the next few months and beginning of next year.
Keep an eye on the up and coming events page to and see if you would like to come and join the fun while helping to raise the funds that will vastly improve the lives of many people.
We are ALMOST a registered charity too. Our papers are with the charities commission and feedback has been positive so far!
